Problem & Solutions

Ramesh’s teeth were crooked, worn down & yellow from years of neglecting and grinding his teeth.  Not only were his teeth chipped and broken he was also suffering from jaw soreness and discomfort.  He wanted a younger looking smile that was straight and brighter.  With his busy schedule, he wanted results that would take months not years.  His grandchildren also commented on his discolored and Misshapen Teeth, which prompted him to get his smile done.

Dr. Patel straightened and whitened Ramesh’s teeth using a combination of porcelain veneers and crowns.  Dr. Patel also helped stabilize his bite using Neuromuscular Dentistry to help relieve his jaw soreness and discomfort.

For health. For beauty. For you.

TMJ is a misalignment of the Temporomandibular Joints, also known as the jaw joints. You have two TMJs - one in front of each ear. When these joints go out of alignment a number of symptoms, collectively known as TMJ syndrome, can occur.

TMJ can be hard to diagnose because the symptoms may be due to a variety of causes. That’s why you should consult with a neuromuscular dentist, like Dr. Tejas Patel at the Center of Cosmetic & General Dentistry in Austin, Texas, who has had extensive training in the nature and functioning of the muscles and bones of the face and jaw, as well as the teeth.

During a comprehensive examination, he will be able to determine if you are suffering symptoms due to TMJ and if so, he’ll implement a course of treatment for you.

Common symptoms of TMJ

  • Headaches or Migraines
  • Neck pain
  • Arm pain or numbness
  • Sore, chipped or broken teeth
  • Popping sound in the jaw
  • Jaw pain
  • Locking jaw
  • Tinnitus (ringing in the ears).

TMJ testing
Dr. Patel will use special instruments to observe your jaw in its resting position. He’ll determine how it moves and if there is any misalignment of your bite.

A process known as electromyography measures the jaw’s muscle function and also determines if there is any structural imbalance in the jaw-to-skull relationship.

If you or anyone in your family has had any TMJ symptoms for a while, consult a neuromuscular dentist. There’s no need to suffer this pain because treatment is available which is effective and long-lasting.
