For health. For beauty. For you.
- I’ve heard people talking about porcelain veneers, but I’m not sure what they are and what they do.
Porcelain veneers are a little like waving a magic wand over your teeth. They can change the shape of a tooth, hide flaws such as chips, craps and discoloration, and even close small gaps between teeth. They are bonded directly to your teeth in a relatively easy and painless procedure that requires just two to three office visits. Today’s porcelain veneers are translucent, just like the tooth’s natural enamel, so they are virtually indistinguishable from your other teeth.
- How many appointments will I need to have porcelain veneers put on my teeth?
Generally, once the initial examination of your teeth is done and the treatment plan is decided upon, you can expect to have three to four appointments for the veneers.
At the first appointment, Dr. Patel will listen to the cosmetic dentistry problems that you would like to use porcelain veneers to correct. He will then inform you all about the porcelain veneer procedure and take an impression of your teeth so that he can perfectly design your new smile.
In the second appointment, the front side of you teeth that are receiving the porcelain veneers are buffed down so that the porcelain veneers can seamlessly fit onto your teeth. Another impression will be taken and sent to a dental lab; there, your porcelain veneers will be custom created. Before you leave, natural looking temporaries will be placed over your teeth for the next few weeks. These temporaries simulate the shape and color of your new smile. They look amazing!!
During the third appointment, Dr. Patel will permanently bond the custom porcelain veneers to your teeth after making sure they perfectly match your teeth for fit and color.
The fourth appointment is for follow-up, to make sure you’re pleased with the results and that your new smile looks and feels great.
-
Will I need anesthesia during the procedure?
A local anesthetic is usually used while the tooth is being prepared. Most guests experience no discomfort, and if you are very anxious, discuss possible sedation choices with your dentist.
-
Do porcelain veneers require any special care?
You should brush and floss your veneers just as you do your natural teeth. With good dental care, your veneers should last many years.
-
I know that dentures can be hard to clean. What about porcelain veneers?
Porcelain is a ceramic, glass-like material that is resistant to staining from coffee, red wine, tea, medications and tobacco. Care is easy, because you brush and floss your veneer-covered teeth just as you do your natural teeth.
