Problem & Solutions
Hema was unhappy with her overlapped & stained teeth that made her look older than she felt. She wanted a natural looking smile that made her look younger. She had always put herself last and felt it was finally time to do something special for her self. She rarely showed her teeth when smiling in pictures.
Dr. Patel straightened her teeth and gave her a younger & whiter smile with 16 porcelain restorations. He also gently re-contoured her gums to achieve that radiant smile.
Testimonial“I smile so much more than I did before and get so many compliments on my smile!”

What causes gum disease?
Gum disease is caused by a sticky substance called plaque that builds up on our teeth. Plaque fosters the growth of bacteria which move into the gums and create infection, causing a breakdown of the gum tissue.
If plaque is not removed each day by brushing and flossing, it hardens into a substance known as calculus or tartar.
As the disease progresses, a vicious circle is set up which is hard to break: bacteria from the plaque multiply between the gums and the teeth, causing the gums to pull away from the teeth, which creates pockets where more bacteria can multiply, which then enlarge the pockets, and so on. Eventually gum disease destroys the bone underneath, loosening the teeth, which eventually fall out.

How do I know if I have gum disease?
In the early stages your gums may feel swollen or tender and may bleed when you brush or floss
-
As the disease progresses the gums will pull away from the teeth and you may notice that your teeth feel loose or that your bite is not quite right
-
Persistent bad breath and pus at the gum line are also indications of gum disease
If you have any of these symptoms, schedule an appointment with your dentist right away.
-
Are there other causes besides the bacteria in plaque?
-
Smoking and chewing tobacco tend to irritate the gums and may make you more prone to developing periodontal disease
-
If you have uncontrolled diabetes or a suppressed immune system, you’ll be less able to fight off bacteria
If any of these factors apply to you, be sure to schedule dental exams and professional cleanings at least every six months.

Are electric toothbrushes effective for preventing gum disease?
Electric toothbrushes and especially ultrasonic toothbrushes are an effective cleaning tool if they’re used properly. However, daily brushing, when done correctly, combined with flossing, can be just as effective.
Check with your dentist for recommendations on the best methods of oral hygiene for you and your family.
