- How does a dental implant differ from dentures?
Dental implants are tooth root replacements, in the form of metal cylinders, or posts, implanted in your jaw so that they fuse with your jawbone. An artificial tooth is attached to the cylinder.
Unlike dentures, they do not require support from surrounding teeth and once healed, are indistinguishable from your own teeth. They are permanent and should be cared for the same way you brush and floss your natural teeth.

Can anyone have dental implants?
You must be in good health and have good bone structure and healthy gums for the implant to stay in place. Your cosmetic dentist can evaluate whether dental implants are right for you.
-
How long does it take to get a dental implant?
You can expect the complete procedure to take about nine months. In the first phase, a metal post is planted into the jaw bone to act as a root for the artificial tooth. After a several months waiting period for the post and jawbone to fuse, the tooth is attached to the post. Then the final healing takes a few more months.
-
Do I need to be under general anesthesia when having dental implants?
The procedure is generally performed with a local anesthetic.
-
Will my dental implants be as strong as my natural teeth?
Your implants may actually be stronger then your natural teeth. Dental implants help restore chewing function and improve your appearance by eliminating the sunken look that often occurs with tooth loss.
